About Us

Houston-based Sun & Ski Sports / Southern Elite is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a serious long term commitment to maintaining a youth cycling race team. The purpose of the team is to provide financial, mentoring and coaching support to deserving young athletes in the development oftheir racing careers and in pursuit of the Olympic dream. Each year athletes who meet pre-established qualifying time standards will receive financial support for a trip to the U.S. National and/or World Championships.

The 2011 team currently includes 15 Junior (10-18) and Espoir (19-22) cyclists from the Houston area along with high-level cycling mentors who will be helping the young cyclists to achieve their goals. Spring Breakaway Ride 2/26/2012 |

Back for about its 8th year is the Spring Breakaway ride. This ride is on Sunday Feb 26th and is a favorite with local and regional riders with its combination of fun routes and a poker run.

Fees: $30 for most riders with a family of four packet available for a price of $100.

  • Eric Woodcock on the Move!
    Eric Woodcock went to the Denton Criterium on Saturday, racing the Men's 2/3 & 3/4 races. In the Men's 2/3, Eric went off with an 11-man break, lapping the main field, and holding on for 11th. In the Men's 3/4 race, the whole field stated together as heavy winds made it hard for any breaks to stick. Eric finished 11th in a pack sprint.

  • Eric Woodcock on the Move II
    On Sunday Eric went to Celina TX, about 35 miles north of Dallas to participate in the Jesuit Ranger Roundup. Again battling a very windy day, a group of 5 riders were able to make a break. Missing out on the break, Eric held on to the main peloton and won the pack sprint taking 6th place for the day,acquiring enough points this weekend to cat up to a 2.

  • Chain Stays in Belgium
    Jonah Tannos and Nick Green have landed and begun their 1.5 month Belgium experience via the Chain Stay. The boys will be training, racing and getting a good look at life and cycling in Belgium for the duration of their stay.   • ms150 Spin Classes
    There is only a month left to ms150! Don't forget, Richard Lamb and various Southern Elite team members are putting on a spin class for ms150 participants at the Westhimer Sun & Ski Location. Spin classes are every Wednesday from the third Wednesday in January to the second Wednesday in April. Classes start @ 6:30 and are about 1.5hr long. Bring your bike and trainer and join in on the fun! For more information conatact Richard Lamb.

  • Copperas Cove Road Race
    Sun & Ski Sports / Southern Elite had 4 riders head out the Copperas Cove road race. In the mens 3/4 race James Walker took 18th in a bunch finish. In the mens P/1/2/3 Nick Green, Jonah Tannos and Pedro "Peter Phillip" Martinez showed up and gave it a go. The blistering speeds landed Nick in 37th, Pedro placed 57th and Jonah rounds it out in 63rd on the overall.

  • Megatron Colonel's Bicycle Race Report
    Jonah Tannos and Nick Green headed up Ft. Worth, Texas for the MEGATRON - A Holland Racing Production - crit race on January 16, 2011 to show off their winter training. Jonah led Nick out in the 3/4's race for a second place finish, Jonah held on for ninth. In the P/1/2/3's the boys had another go at it giving it all they could, they held on til 5 laps to go! Way to start out the year guys!

  • 2010 TXBRA Junior Team Win!
    We are proud to anounce that the Junior Team took first place for the 2010 race season. A bit late, we know, but we need to recognize this awesome feat by your young boys and girls.
